BIOGRAPHY
Some bands form. The Gopniks feel like they erupted. Established in 2022 under the singular vision of frontman and self-declared ringleader Ben Cash, The Gopniks were never going to be the kind of act that plays it safe. The stated mission from the jump was confrontational in the best possible way: take the raw, primal electricity of early 1950s rockabilly and rock n roll — the stuff that made parents nervous and teenagers feral — and drag it somewhere no one had thought to look. What emerged from that collision is The GOPNIKS.
Galway skronky alt rock 'n' roll five piece The GOPNIKS "the glamourless grease gang, the thang born of wardrobe and fronted by scrawny preacher thing Mr Ben Cash" released their debut album The Blah Biz Cabaret on Saturday April 18 2026.
With a sound which may or may not be electronic punk, post-punk, psychobilly or goth rock, Galway's The GOPNIKS defy categorisation and sound like no other band in Ireland. 'Like Tom Waits on speed' according to author Phil Strongman.
Driven by frontman Ben Cash's acerbic, caustic drone-drawl, with a tightly repetitive guitar, bass, drum, synth backing, THE GOPNIKS released their debut single WHITE CAT in March 2025 followed by MR MANNEQUIN in April.
June 2025 saw the release of their second single SEES BANSHEES IN THE TREES b/w COLONEL FLAB DREAM and a sound which moved away from their early gothbilly into something more akin to the spidery eerieness of Dragnet era The Fall. Urban and Western as opposed to Country and Northern.
As the band prepare for Tours of The UK and Europe, they are working on their second LP which they intend to release on a bigger label.
"Mix the Dead Kennedys, The Cramps, and The Fall together in a blender and this would be the perfect product. Wow! This is easily a contender for album of the year in my reckoning, and it's their debut album out now on Blowtorch Records, check this out folks you won't be disappointed!" -Deko of 'Paranoid Visions' on Debut album 'The Blah Biz Cabaret'
